For Molly Payne and Patricia Cammareri, a chance meeting at a shoe store was the beginning for their whimsical children’s clothing collection A.Bird Baby. Both mothers to young daughters, each had a desire to create a higher end children’s clothing brand that combined their talents in design and the need for classic, quality keepsake clothing that is beautiful and practical. The result is A.Bird’s Fall 2010 debut collection, set to hit store shelves this July.
A.Bird’s first-ever collection is sophisticated with an edgy modern twist, featuring natural bleached linen and light flowing ruffles throughout, ranging in price from $70 to $110 retail.
“We wanted to create special and emotional garments that were at the same time functional,” said Cammareri, who has a background in designing shoes under the Liz Claiborne brand.
The delightful collection includes pleated frocks, smock tops, leggings, ruffle pants, and bloomers in muted cream, grey, and eggshell blue hues. Pieces are designed to mix & match and are machine washable– perfect for children who want to dress themselves and busy parents. Styles come in sizes 12 months to 6T for boys and girls, and are available to pre-order at www.zealbaby.com.
Headquartered in St. Augustine, Florida, A.Bird’s creators have set out to create a quality collection of heirloom pieces focused on fine fabrics and unique details. Cammareri and Payne named the collection A.Bird after their daughters, whose names both start with “A” and Payne’s daughter Ayla is nicknamed “Bird.”
“We are not a disposable line,” said Payne, who is also a successful interior designer and the creator of the shopping site ZealBaby.com. “Our pieces are intended to be passed on for generations to come and are constructed to withstand the test of time.”
Some of Fall ‘10’s must-have styles from A.Bird include the sophisticated Burk jacket with patches, the ruffled Posey Frock that can be worn with dressy patent leather Mary Janes or combat boots for added edge, and the adorable Ayla Bloomers, a throwback to a sweeter time in children’s fashion.
